Installing Power Windows in a Bug

Electrically-operated windows have been practically standard operating procedure (S.0.P.) in new cars for years. We don't even think twice about reaching over and pushing a button to lower the windows in our weekend truck or daily grocery getter: But what about the old VW Beetle?

Sure, VW never saw the need for power windows, but that shouldn't mean we're locked in on having roll-up windows for life, right? Well, thanks to Wolf Elec… , there is now a low-cost power window kit that is designed especially for the Beetle.

The package comes complete with all the necessary mechanisms, motors, wiring harness, switches and hardware to make this installation an easy, no-hassle, streamlined task.

Wolf Elec… ’s parent company is based In England and has been producing power window systems and power door locks for O.E.M. installations for years. And. now they have tooled up and made a special kit for Beetles, or all years, whether it has one-piece windows or standard vents. It will not fit the Beetle convertible, however.

More generic kits are also available for the Type 3, Bus, Ghia and just any other car or truck made. The real beauty of this kit is price. Figure about $250 for the complete deal, which replaces the existing VW regulator altogether. So if you were planning to buy new replacement regulators, which run about $50 each, for approximately $150 more you can have power windows!

The installation of the power windows was very easy and only a couple small holes had to be drilled. You'll need a 10mm socket wrench, a Phillips-head screwdriver, 1/8 inch, 1/4-inch and 5/8-inch drills, drill motor and a free afternoon.

There is little in the way to make this task difficult. And thanks to the prior planning and well thought out design of the Wolf kit, you'll have power windows in your Bug in a matter of hours, no kidding!

Along with the power window kit, Wolf Electronics also offers a power door lock system that unlocks the doors from the outside using a small remote sender. ...
